OPENING SPEECH
AT THE INDONESIAN CONTEMPORARY DANCE PERFORMANCE
BY THE JAKARTA INSTITUTE OF THE ART
IN PRAGUE, 27 NOVEMBER 2009

Excellencies,
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a great pleasure, indeed, for me to stand before you to host and welcome each and every one of you to the Indonesian Contemporary Dance 2009.

For Indonesia, this is our first time to perform a contemporary dance in the Czech Republic. Every year, from 2007-2009, we actively participate in many cultural events by presenting Indonesian traditional dances across the country.

Today, we would like to show you our contemporary dances held by the Jakarta Institute of the Art with the choreographer Professor Sardono Kusumo.

For your information, this institute comes to Prague not only to perform dance in this event, but they also conduct meetings with the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and Academy of Fine Arts in order to build a cooperation between the mentioned schools.

Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,

We bring Jakarta Institute of the Art to Prague, in order to introduce to everyone that Indonesia is not only home of traditional dances, songs, and music, but my country also has many artists who have been performing their master-pieces around the world.

Therefore, it is an honor to have them here with us today.

For those reasons, I would like to convey my sincere gratitude and thank to:

1. Dr. Wagiono Sunarto, MSc, Rector of Jakarta Institute of the Arts and his staffs
2. Dr. Ivo Mathe and Ing. Karel Foustka of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague
3. Dr. Jiri Prihoda of the Academy of Fine Arts  
4. Last but not least, every one who is here with us to see their performance

Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,

In this special opportunity, I would like to underline that this event is one of the many ways to prove friendly relations between Czech and Indonesia. And I hope that through this activity, the relations between our two countries, Indonesia and Czech, will be stronger and strengthen.
